Originally named the Pathfinder Armada, the Armada is a full size sport utility vehicle manufactured and sold by Nissan. The Armada is based on the F-Alpha platform that it shares with the
Nissan Titan pickup truck, the
Nissan Xterra, the
Nissan Frontier, as well as the
Nissan Pathfinder sport utility vehicle. An up market version of the Armada exists and is sold as the Infinity QX56. Nissan built every Armada in its Canton, Mississippi factory.
The Nissan Armada is powered by a 5.6 liter VK56DE V8 engine that is coupled with a five speed automatic transmission. Consumers also have the option of rear wheel drive or four wheel drive, based on their needs and plans with the vehicle. The Nissan Armada was built specifically for the North American market and was introduced in the 2004 model year. The Armada was Nissan's response to the full size sport utiltiy vehicle market segment and competes with th Ford Expedition, the Chevy Tahoe, the GMC Yukon, the Toyota Sequoia, and the Toyota Land Cruiser. By the second year of its production, the SUV was known just as the Nissan Armada instead of its original name the Pathfinder Armada to avoid confusion between the Pathfinder and the Armada, which are two separate vehicles.
