Also known as the Fairlady Z, the Nissan 240Z is a sports car produced by Nissan starting in the 1970s. The Nissan 240Z was also known as the Datsun 240Z and was first introduced with a 2.4 liter straight six engine in a stylized coupe body. The 240Z also featured rear wheel drive. The engine provided 150 horsepower and was fitted with a five speed manual transmission, though only a four speed manual transmission was offtered in the United States. The first models were fitted with four wheel independent suspension, front disc brakes, and rear drums were all standard.
Yutaka Katayama introduced the 240Z to the American market in 1969. The vehicle used twin one barrel carburetors, and fuel injection was added by 1975. The fuel injection was added mostly to meet emissions regulations as well as to get all of the power the car needed. The 240Z was popular as soon as it came on the market because it had a great look and was well priced compared to other sports cars such as the Jaguar and the Porsche. The car was so popular that even in 2004 the 240Z was named by Sports Car International as the number two vehicle on the Top Sports Cars of the 1970s which is a huge honor.
