Just got a 07 Pathfinder and had a question on the fuel reqiuerments. The manuel states it is recomended that 91 octain be used, but the sales staff stated that 87 or 89 can be used also. Will this damage the engin or just result in a loss of performence? Is this the same engin in the Xterra and Fontier? They both use regular fuel.

The inside of the fuel door on my '05 says, "Premium Fuel Is Recommended For Optimum Performance".  I have the same engine as an '07.
What I do is use the lower octane fuel on road trips, when I am not pulling any major load.  Around town, where I might need "optimum performance" at any given moment, I use 91 or higher.
