Starting in 2009, Nissan Motors plans to introduce their ECO Pedal System. This system monitors the fuel efficiency of the vehicle, and when the driver attempts to accelerate to the point where the economy of the vehicle is severely impacted, the gas pedal actually applies pressure back against the driver’s foot. Nissan claims that the ECO Pedal System allows the vehicles to gain an average of 5 to 10 percent, but many skeptics think that this is too much assistance from the vehicle. The main concern with this idea, is the result of pulling out to pass a vehicle, or pulling into traffic too quickly, and having the system effectively slow the car down. This could create very dangerous situations, and even though the system offers the ability to disable it, many people feel that this will be an unpopular option, should it become available next year.
